Tech Commercialization Support
After making your particular argument for long term commercial potential for your invention, you may wish to consider adding the following:

Commercialization of inventions that result from this grant application will be handled by the Wayne State University Technology Commercialization Office. WSU has operated such a program for over 18 years and has exceptional resources available to assist researchers in technology transfer and ensure that discoveries can be commercialized. WSU currently has seven full-time professionals and two full-time support staff handling intellectual property, licensing and startup company formation based on WSU discoveries.

TTO professionals have an aggregate of nearly 100 years experience in all aspects of technology transfer including intellectual property and patent filing strategies, technology marketing, licensing agreement negotiation, compliance monitoring, entrepreneurial education and support for high-technology business startups.

In addition to these services, the WSU Technology Commercialization Office provides access to internal and competitively awarded external gap funding, which is deployed to further develop and provide proof of concept testing to early stage WSU technologies with commercial potential.

In the event technology from this grant is commercialized via the formation of a new company, it will have the opportunity to benefit from additional resources. Newly formed companies can locate in and receive assistant from TechTown, WSU’s affiliated 100,000-square-foot business incubator facility. SmartStart, TechTown’s business development program, helps companies accelerate growth and manage issues like product development, marketing, funding and basic business operations. Via sponsorship from TechTown, startup firms will also be eligible to pursue pre-seed gap funding through the Michigan Pre-Seed Capital Fund, which supports high-tech startup companies as they near commercial viability by providing access to early-stage capital to accelerate company development.

This link will provide our faculty with tools geared towards helping consider and communicate the long-term economic development potential of the anticipated results and intellectual property generated by their grant.
